Explainer Animation
First Nations National Guardians Network
The Brief
Visually rich storytelling for a world-first Indigenous-led network
Sectors: Charity | Campaigns
Services: Animation | Social Campaign
An Overview
Meantime Studio partnered with new client the First Nations National Guardians Network (FNNGN) to create a powerful illustrated explainer; a centrepiece in a broader creative collaboration that included a full rebrand and a series of documentary films.
FNNGN is the first Indigenous-led national guardian network of its kind. Rooted in ancestral knowledge and driven by a vision for the future, they unite and support Indigenous Guardian programs across what is now known as Canada; protecting land, ice, waters, and ways of life for generations to come.
As a film, design and animation video company with a strong focus on storytelling, we were proud to help bring this legacy to life.
The challenge
Animating legacy,
leadership and land
Our task was to translate FNNGN’s mission into a vibrant, emotionally resonant animation. Working closely with their team, we created a beautifully illustrated film that celebrates the richness of Indigenous stewardship and the breathtaking landscapes under their care.
From sweeping inlets and tundra to forested valleys and icy mountain ranges, the animation captures not only the environment, but the people protecting it. Guardians whose work is rooted in deep knowledge and cultural leadership.
As an animation video company, we leaned into beautifully illustrated visuals, gentle transitions, and a rhythm that reflected both the wisdom of tradition and the urgency of now

Our work is grounded in generations of wisdom, and fuelled by a vision for the future.
For today, and for generations to come;
This is our legacy.
Research & Strategy
Words with weight,
visuals with heart
Understanding the cultural, environmental, and political context of the First Nations National Guardians Network was essential. We worked closely with FNNGN to listen, learn, and shape a narrative that aligned with their values and long-term goals. Our strategy centred on clarity, emotional resonance, and cultural authenticity; ensuring the animation would serve not just as a communications tool, but as a proud reflection of Indigenous leadership. We made space for meaningful input at every stage, from initial messaging frameworks to visual tone and storyboarding.

The Impact
For today, and for
generations to come;
This is our legacy
The voice of the script is the right tone for FNNGN; confident, clear, and visionary. It communicates the scale of their work, from climate action to biodiversity protection, all through the lens of Indigenous leadership. Every scene is anchored in values of sovereignty, connection, and responsibility.
This wasn’t just an explainer, it was a statement of identity. Designed to speak to Guardians, funders, policymakers, and community members alike, the animation now plays a central role in FNNGN’s national communications.
As an animation video company committed to purpose-driven work, this project represents the kind of collaboration we care deeply about. Rooted in respect, built on trust, and made to last.
