Fostering Minisite
Action for Children was launching a new fostering microsite to encourage more people to consider becoming foster carers. Rather than relying on generic stock imagery or idealised family portraits, the charity wanted a collection of authentic photography that reflected the realities of fostering and the support available throughout the journey.
The Challenge
Authenticity
Deliverables:
- Art direction
- Manifesto film
- Hero photography
- Microsite photography
Alongside the photography, we were commissioned to produce a manifesto film that would introduce visitors to Action for Children’s approach to fostering. Together, these assets would define the tone of the new microsite, helping prospective carers feel welcomed, understood and supported from the moment they arrived.
The challenge wasn’t simply to create beautiful visuals. Every photograph needed to tell a story, work across multiple layouts and remain flexible enough for future marketing activity. Meanwhile, the film needed to deliver a clear, reassuring message without feeling scripted or corporate.

Our Approach
Photography and film as one visual story.
First, we cast a consistent family and support worker before sourcing a real family home that felt warm, lived-in and relatable. We then planned every scene to reflect a different stage of the fostering journey, balancing joyful everyday moments with quieter, more challenging situations. Throughout, we carefully composed each image with space for headlines and copy, giving Action for Children maximum flexibility across the microsite and beyond.
At the same time, we produced a manifesto film centred around an Action for Children support worker. As she delivers the script directly to camera, she leaves the office and visits a foster family, reinforcing the organisation’s promise to support carers every step of the way. Rather than presenting fostering as something that demands perfection, the film celebrates individuality, reassuring viewers that the best foster carers are simply themselves.
By developing both the photography and film together, we created a consistent visual identity that runs throughout the microsite. Every image, every scene and every message works together to build trust and encourage prospective carers to take the next step.

Final Thoughts
Honest, optimistic and deeply human.
The photography and manifesto film now sit at the heart of Action for Children’s new fostering microsite, creating a welcoming first impression for prospective foster carers.
Together, they present fostering in a way that feels honest, optimistic and deeply human. Rather than relying on polished campaign clichés, the microsite introduces visitors to relatable families, authentic moments and the reassurance that Action for Children will support them throughout their fostering journey.
As a result, visitors encounter a consistent visual identity from the moment they arrive, helping to build trust and encouraging them to explore fostering further. At the same time, the photography provides Action for Children with a flexible library of assets that work seamlessly across the microsite while supporting future recruitment, social media and printed communications.
Ultimately, the project delivered much more than a collection of photographs and a manifesto film. It established a visual foundation for the new microsite, helping Action for Children communicate its values with warmth, authenticity and confidence.
