The Brief

Injecting Humour Into Tech with Breakwater IT

IT with Personality

When Breakwater IT came to us with a brief to make a film that was “fun, funny, and full of personality,” we knew we were in for something a bit different. Especially when our director insisted it “must feature a live chicken.” The project was designed to showcase the people behind Breakwater. Less dry PowerPoint slides, more dry humour. Less faceless IT support, more brilliant individuals with actual faces. Shot over two days in studio, the film introduces Breakwater’s team with sketches & surreal moments. Because let’s be honest: IT is everywhere. But personality? That’s harder to find.

The Concept

From Script to Studio (and Coop)

Deliverables:

  • Hero Film

Rather than focusing on services or specs, the film takes a different approach: What makes Breakwater different from the others? Why work with them instead? It became pretty clear to the meantime team that Breakwater were unlike other IT firms we’d experienced!

The concept was scripted by Luke Billing and Joe Murray, combining observational wit, & awkwardness, with comedic delivery. Each team member had a moment to shine.

Production

An IT film that’s actually fun!

Shot in a stylised studio setup, the directing and cinematography team (Joe, Ben Lambert and Annu Kolthammer) brought the script to life with playful blocking and careful timing, allowing moments to breathe without losing pace. Ben led the edit, with some VFX help from Jack Purling, weaving the footage into a film that balances absurdity with authenticity.

At Meantime Studio, some of our best videography moments come from making films like this; where the ask is to make something real, weird, and full of character. Working with Breakwater IT felt more like collaborating with a cast of comedians than your standard corporate shoot. Their willingness to poke fun at themselves – and show the people behind the service – made for a much more watchable, rewatchable, and shareable piece of content.

Final Thoughts

Some of meantime’s best videography projects come from that open-brief, super fun approach, where clients want to give an audience a chuckle or two. If you’re looking for a film that proves professionalism and personality can go hand-in-hand – chicken optional – we’d love to help..
