Capturing Culture: Event Videography at Norfolk & Norwich Festival

Each May, Norfolk & Norwich Festival turns the city into a stage — with streets, theatres, galleries and public spaces filled with performance, music, art and celebration. It’s a vibrant, sprawling mix of the bold and the unexpected — which makes it a brilliant challenge for an event videographer.

This year, we were brought in to capture the energy of the festival in full swing. Our goal wasn’t just to document what happened, but to translate the feeling of being there. That meant a careful blend of fly-on-the-wall coverage, considered cinematography, and instinctive, reactive shooting; finding moments that felt authentic, surprising, and full of life.

We worked closely with the Festival team in the lead-up to the programme, shaping a plan that would let us be agile on the ground while still hitting all the right coverage. That meant being in the right place at the right time — but also knowing when to hang back and let a moment unfold.

Because we’re a full-service studio, our in-house editors and animators were already thinking about how the footage would be shaped, scored and shared. From motion-graphic overlays to quick social edits, the final output was built into the process from day one.

Being an event videographer isn’t just about coverage. It’s about understanding the mood of a space and capturing the way people move through it. At a festival like this — where every show is different and no audience is the same — that means staying open, flexible, and always curious. Our final edits aimed to reflect the range of the programme — from intimate performances to large-scale outdoor installations — and to give viewers a sense of the personality and purpose behind the work.

Big thanks to the Festival team for bringing us on board and backing a creative approach to the coverage. We loved being part of it.
