A Bold Brand Evolution for Maktens Borg

Borg & Overström is a familiar name in the Meantime offices. We’ve worked with them for years across both film and animation, and every project is a pleasure. Their brand is bold, distinctive, and instantly recognisable, making it an exciting challenge to create new content while staying true to their aesthetic. Few companies have a brand as strong as the striking black and white of Borg & Overström.

For this project, they approached us to create a brand video to introduce their new logo, Maktens Borg, to the world. The animation also needed to communicate the company’s core values and vision. A key idea behind this new direction was the power of icons—symbols that transcend language and create a truly global identity. The new logo, a castle enclosed in a circle, became central to the animation’s concept. Working closely with the team, we developed the idea of following the circle as it seamlessly connected different scenes, illustrating the company’s journey and ideals. In the final moments, the circle resolves into the new Maktens Borg logo, completing the story.

As a company offering explainer video services, we know that strong branding requires consistency. Borg & Overström’s established look and feel had to remain intact, so we opted for a minimalist line-art style—clean, sharp, and in perfect harmony with the Scandinavian design principles that inform their entire brand. To enhance this aesthetic, we paired the animation with smooth, fluid motion, keeping it sleek and refined, just like the engineering and craftsmanship behind Borg & Overström’s products.

This project stands out because of how visually satisfying it is. The balance between existing branding and fresh creativity makes it a great example of how animation can evolve a brand while staying true to its roots.
